Cybercrime is Evolving, So Should Your Business

It’s no longer just big companies that are being targeted by hackers. As the pandemic has pushed most businesses around the globe towards digitalization, small and medium-sized businesses are becoming more vulnerable to cybercrime.

While hackers continuously evolve, companies must learn how to keep their primary source of income safe from all forms of cyber attacks.

Limit Employee Access to Sensitive Info

Even though all employees often appreciate transparency when managing a team of professionals, transparency is typically not helpful when dealing with sensitive information.

Not everyone hired should have access to all of a business’s sensitive information. Better yet, assigning particular people to handle these data types will be even more advantageous in the long run.

Some companies hire Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to avail themselves of managed IT services by outsourcing certain IT functions. An outsourced dedicated IT team can help strengthen any of a company’s existing in-house IT management services.

Additionally, managed service providers can provide supplemental security checks that can act as another line of protection against attackers who intend to steal sensitive business data.

Change Passwords Regularly

Changing passwords regularly might seem annoying at first, but it’s one of the easiest and safest forms of security against potential cybercrime.

Setting up a regular schedule every month or so can effortlessly heighten the online security of any business against phishing and all other types of attacks that most small business owners are vulnerable to.

Use Multi-Factor Authentication

According to Microsoft, 99.9 percent of hacked accounts often do not use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Using MFA, or even just 2-Factor (2FA) authentication, prevents hackers from quickly gaining access to an account by requiring phone, email, or code verifications for all new sign-ins.

This tactic can prevent most cybercrimes since it’s highly unlikely for hackers to have access to one person’s multiple devices.

Though it’s impossible to force workers to enable MFA in their personal accounts, it should still be encouraged among all employees. By adhering to good security practices, team members will also see the potential to heighten the company’s online security and decrease the chances of compromising everyone’s safety.

There are still companies that are still not familiar with strong encryption technology. To cybercriminals, this means effortless access to essential information that could easily put clients’ data at risk.

In the long run, keeping up to date with new technological innovations and investing in a highly skilled team of professionals specializing in managed IT services will always pay off, especially in ensuring your business’s security against cybercrime.

Envision Consulting

Envision Consulting

We started Envision Consulting for businesses that share our passion for building long- term and healthy relationships. While we might be technology experts, we’ve always known that trust, reliability and looking after a client’s best interest are paramount to succeeding in business. But in 2001 and to this day, there were few managed IT providers available that embodied our customer-centric values. There were countless support companies more interested in reacting to issues than paving the road forward for clients, making it far too difficult to build long-term relationships. We felt a strong pull to make something different, and we did.
